The Saudi Mining Polytechnic (SMP) was established in 2012 as a strategic partnership between the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) and Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) in order to develop cadres of Saudi youth to take over tasks and roles in the mining industry. Initially, a contract was signed with the Missouri University of Science and Technology to operate the institute. The technical and mining programs were designed and developed by the aforementioned university. In its relentless pursuit of achieving the required quality, SMP has seven state-of-the-art simulators, a mini mineral processing plant, a. safety exhibition, a fabrication lab, a geology exhibition and virtual reality lab. This makes the institute a pioneer in providing vocational training in mining in the Kingdom and the Gulf region. The institute also offers a distinguished English language program that enables graduates to obtain a minimum proficiency level of B1+ in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) standard. The institute focuses its programs on graduating operators and technicians with comprehensive experience. SMP adheres to the policies, work ethics, safety behaviours, effective communication. A safety exhibition was established at the institute to raise awareness of industrial and personal safety procedures. The institute has obtained several accreditations from national and international bodies in the field of safety, such as OSHA, and memberships from the British Safety Council and the National Safety Council. The institute also obtained full institutional accreditation from the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC).
